According to various online articles, Australian shoppers are said to be claiming around $100 million Australian Dollars in personal injury compensation claims for trips and slips in supermarkets per year.
Some of the biggest problems facing the Aussie shoppers are broken trolleys, rice grains and grapes causing slips.
As well as grapes, which have been mentioned in our accident news before, accidents in supermarkets are also being caused by peas, beans, milk and even lettuce leaves.
Supermarkets are trying to combat the rising claims by installing signs, using anti slip mats and even storing problem foods.
Some example cases detailed include a women fell and got stuck under a trolley, leading to her needing a knee replacement. She was awarded $300,000 for the accident.
Another woman who slipped on a grape in a Sydney supermarket was awarded $70,000 after hurting her back and knee in the fall.
