    Liverpool tops league for Whiplash claimsAccording to figures from the Department of Work and Pensions, Liverpool is the city that has had the most whiplash claims between March 2010 and March 2011.

    Liverpool had 18,500 whiplash claims in that period which worked out as 22 per 100 residents. The next city with the most claims was Uxbridge in West London with 21 per 1000 and then Oldham in Manchester with 20 per 1000.

    On the other end of the scale, cities with the least number of claims, Scotland topped the league. A whopping 9 out of 10 cities with the least whiplash claims were Scottish cities. (Read more…)

    FIFA agree on compensation for players inured on international dutyFIFA have signed off their new Club Protection Programme that tackles the issue of insurance and compensation for players who are injured whilst on international duty.

    The programme was approved by FIFA congress in Budapest and will see clubs be awarded a maximum of €7.5m for a player who is injured in an ‘A’ international match on the FIFA calendar.

    Payouts will depend on the size of a player’s salary and the length of time they are out of action for the club. (Read more…)

    Supplier fined after worker severs handAn equipment supplier was fined after a worker severed his hand in an accident with glass cutting machinery.

    The unnamed 37 year old worker was investigating a fault on a new tilt table with a colleague at glass manufacturers, Solaglas (Architectural) Ltd in Bishop Auckland.

    He had to get on his hands and knees to see where the fault lay and the emergency stop had been activated. But when a colleague moved past a sensor, a large piece of glass that was suspended above his wrist was released which severed his hand.

    The worker was rushed to hospital where surgeons were able to reattach his hand with partial success. The injury meant he was off work for several months as he recovered. (Read more…)

    Feed firm fined over lorry driver’s fallA Devon agricultural feed firm has been fined after a driver injured himself when he fell from the top of his lorry.

    The worker was attempting to remove a cover from his tipper truck at a Wiltshire feed mill. He had to climb up steps as the company had not provided a safety measure to ensure it could be taken off safely.

    The worker fell and fractured his wrist and pelvis and had to stay in hospital for 7 days as he recovered. His injuries meant he had to stay off work for 11 weeks and unable to leave the house unassisted. The accident has meant he has developed arthritis and will only have 80% of functionality in his wrist. (Read more…)

    Brothers seek compensation after being injured in gas explosionTwo brothers are reportedly seeking compensation after suffering injuries and having their van damaged in a gas explosion accident.

    Azmat and Amjad Iwbal were sat in their van along a street in Shelton, Staffordhsire when a gas leak caused a terraced house to explode.

    Luckily no one was in the house, but the Iwbal brothers’ van was pelted with bricks and debris, causing the roof to cave in and the van to fill with dust. Both suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene by ambulance staff for cuts and back pain. (Read more…)

    Demolition firm fined after gas pipe fire burns workerA demolition firm have been fined over a work accident led to a worker being burnt by a gas pipe fire.

    The unnamed 37 year old employee was working at a warehouse in Burton-on-Trent on a demolition job, when he cut through a gas pipe which ignited in his face.

    The fire burnt his face and forearms and he was rushed to a local hospital and then transferred at the burns unit at Birmingham Queen Elizabeth hospital where he stayed for two days. (Read more…)
