    A biker who was hit by a supermarket delivery van and sustained serious injuries is said to have been awarded personal injury compensation.

    Paul Parkin was knocked off his Suzuki motorbike back in 2009 by a supermarket van and was left with serious injuries and had to be put into an induced coma for four days.

    Mr Parkin actually startled medical staff, who expected him to stay in hospital for 4 to 5 months, but actually only stayed in hospital for 6 weeks. During this time, he had surgical procedures on his legs, arms and hips. (Read more…)

    Woman paralysed in van hit and run wins compensation A woman who was paralysed in a hit and run incident with a van has reportedly been awarded compensation.

    Carol Bright was waiting to be picked up from work by her husband in September 2010, when she was knocked over by a reversing van and then drove off.

    Mrs Bright was taken to hospital where she spent 14 months in rehabilitation after being left paralysed from the neck down. She now relies on 24 hour care and is in a wheelchair.

    It has been reported that the Motor Insurers’ bureau awarded Mrs Bright a multi million pound compensation settlement as the alleged driver of the van failed to appear in court and his whereabouts are unknown. (Read more…)

    Window manufacturer fined after worker injured in accident A window manufacturer based in Derbyshire has been fined after a worker injured their arm in a poorly guarded machine.

    29 year old Wayne Marshall was working for Frame Trade UK Ltd in Langley Mill, using a corner cleaning machine in May 2010.

    An important sensor that enabled the machine to operate correctly had become covered by plastic debris, so Mr Marshall attempted to clean it. During this process, his sleeve got caught in a plastic cutter and left him with serious lacerations on his arms and damaged tendons on his fingers.

    He was left unable to work for several weeks and has now returned to work, but for another company. (Read more…)

    Kennel company fined after worker amputates finger on sawA kennel company in Staffordshire has been fined after a worker amputated his finger on a saw in an accident at work.

    Antony Capewell from Stoke-on-Trent was working for Ultra Kennels Ltd in Chesterton last May when the accident occurred.

    He was cutting wood using a table saw without any jigs or support, when his left hand came into contact with the blade and his left index finger was amputated and damage was caused to his middle finger and thumb.

    Mr Capewell was off work for 6 months and has now gone to work as a labourer for another company. (Read more…)

    Food production firm fined after teenage worker injured fingers in accidentA food production company from the West Midlands have been fined after a teenage worker had an accident that injured his fingers, resulting in one having to be amputated.

    The 16 year old worker was clearing a blockage in a biscuit crumbing machine at Phoenix Brands ltd when he put his hand too far in the machine.

    His hand was pulled into the machine that breaks up the biscuits and injured a number of fingers on his right hand. His middle finger was damaged so much that it had to be amputated. (Read more…)
